We love looking after feet!
At Five Little Piggies in Rutherglen (Glasgow) we genuinely care about foot health. In a world where feet are a no-no for many people (why is that??!) we’re working hard to make sure foot health is on the agenda for everyone – young or old, male or female.
Foot pain isn’t normal and should not be ignored. If you had a sore eye, you would make an appointment with your optician. A toothache and you’d be off to your dentist faster than a speeding bullet. But aches and pains in your feet – you’ll probably attempt to put up with that. Go on, admit it…
So why haven’t you got the phone number for your podiatrist saved on your phone? Is it because you’re thinking:
“only old ladies see a chiropodist”
“I hate my feet, they’re ridiculous looking, so there’s no way I’m getting them out”
“this is Scotland, it’s not like we get the weather for sandals anyway”
Well, you’d be wrong about the first one. We treat patients of all ages – from young children (verrucae are a particular speciality!) to pensioners and every age in-between. We see nurses, teachers, sales reps – people with jobs that particularly put demands on their feet as a result of being on them all day, every day. We’ve got patients that come to us before they go for a pedicure – just to make sure their feet and toenails are in a tip-top state for getting the best out of their beauty treat.
As for the second reason, are you reading this as you look at your heels with their hard, calloused, and dry skin and thinking “they’re horrific, I’m not showing you my feet”? Then let me stop you right there: that’s not a valid reason; those problems can be easily solved. The first step (pardon the pun) is to get in touch and make an appointment.
On to your third reason: yes, this is Scotland. Our feet are nearly always wrapped in socks and shoes or slippers. They’re forever in hiding and like our backs, they’re out of sight, out of mind so it’s easy for us to mistreat them. But what about when that orange orb in the sky does decide to put in an appearance? What about that fortnight in Spain you’ve got booked? Are you planning on wearing socks with your sandals (because that is a horrific sight!)? We can treat all manner of common foot complaints – from athlete’s foot to verrucae. Got blisters, bunions, or corns? They’re more common than you think and we can provide treatment and advice on how to prevent them returning. If you’re living with a high-risk condition such as diabetes or rheumatoid arthritis then we provide specialist care to ensure your foot health doesn’t suffer as a consequence.
Stop hating your feet.
